Spring Pigs

I made these pig bodies from old fishing buoys. The fisherman would tar the buoys to water proof them - they were made from cedar and would carve the hold out with a knife of lathe.

Herd of Moose

I always make a herd of moose every year.   I save up dinner forks for the antlers and use body fill to weld them into the wood.  The legs are made from nails.

Crows and Gulls

Well it has been a bird week!  I made crows and gulls.
For the base of the crows I used some of my firewood from my basement.
I did two types of gulls - Lady Slipper Gulls and Tignish Hush Puppy Gulls.
On the Lady Slipper Gulls before the green part of the flower I used a piece of leather so that it would not break off.  The bodies are carved from wood.
This is the first time I made rubber boots on a seagull.  A fishing community not far from me calls these rubber boots, Tignish Hush Puppies - so I call these gulls "Tignish Hush Puppy Gulls".

Mermaids

I'm still at the folk art - just did these mermaid buoys - not one is the same.
I used oar locks for the tails; the arms are taken from chair spindles; and the bodies are made from eastern white cedar.

12-foot Harvest Table

I made this 12'-0" table this week.  I can still make them longer - 16'-0" is the maximum.  It was a challenge to get the table out of my shop and into my truck - I had to take it through the overhead door with a big snow bank against it!
The top is pine and legs cedar.

Carousel - Part 3 - Finished

Well, I have to say this piece is amoung the top five of my favourite folkart pieces I've made over years.
Last night my wife sewed the fabric for the roof complete with elastic so you can put it on and take off easily.
It measures 20" wide by 20" high. For the center piece in the middle I used a piece of old newel post.

Carousel - Part 2

I got my animals painted today and the merry go round is done also. The next stage is putting together the parts of the animals, poles and the top clips that keep the poles from turning. I'm going to be putting a tent like roof on top of the merry go round using fabric.
