New Pieces for 2015 - Part 7

This is the first time I made an RCMP using a sap bucket - I'm happy the way they turned out.  They stand 34" tall.
This is the end of postings for this project - now on to the next project.

New Pieces for 2015 - Part 6

I finished the women on Saturday.  This is the first African-American piece I've ever done - I didn't paint her teapot, I thought it looked better in natural state.  I'm happy how the sap bucket ladies turned out.
I'll have the RCMP done for the next posting.

New Pieces for 2015 - Part 5

I had a good few days of painting - I got the chicken, women with dress, and the RCMP K-9 dog done.   I'm going to keep at the painting an should be finished today.
The dog's tongue is made from the handle of a spoon.
You can put flowers in the hole in the back of the chicken.

Old Piano converted to Fireplace Mantle with Mirror

A month ago I had a customer bring me the pieces of her old piano that had been in her family since the late 1800's - she asked me to make it into a mantle with electric fireplace.  I also made a mirror using the piano's label at the top.
Below are some before and after photos.

Last summer I had another customer, who was moving back to Ontario and couldn't take her piano - she brought me the dismantled pieces and asked me to make it in to a chandelier for her - I used the piano keys and misc. inner parts - see below.

New Pieces for 2015 - Part 4

I got a good start on the painting and put two coats of primer on each carving, then a coat of latex paint.  As you can see, I used a sap buckets for the bodies, for the other gals I used two old camping kettles.
I have another project going on through the week and will get back to painting the end of the week.

New Pieces for 2015 - Part 3

In the last few days I finished up these carvings.  I used eastern white cedar and white pine for the carved arms, RCMP hats and guns, and the rest of the heads.  The next thing to do is start the painting.

New Pieces for 2015 - Part 2

I got a start on the buckets and teapots the last few days.  The dog is going to be standing beside an RCMP officer - I'm making two of them.  Also, I'm making three sap bucket ladies and the big teapot kettles are going to be lady's.
I'm going to finish up carving the faces tomorrow and carve out some arms.

New Pieces for 2015 - Part 1

For my first project of the new year I went up stairs (above my studio) and dug out some buckets.
First I got a start on this rooster that has oxen shoes for wings and pliers for the beak, the legs are made from a chair rung, and the top cone is from a part off a cog.
I will post more of this project as it go's along in the next few weeks.

The woman below has the dress made from an old funnel, flipped upside-down.
