This blog shows the folkart I make, my reproduction furniture and other projects. My studio/shop is in my backyard. It's a couple of miles off the main road in West Prince County, Prince Edward Island, Canada. When you come to visit make sure you see – the "Olde Times" Garden House Museum; Grandma's Attic; the Furniture Box; Grampa's Loft (antiques, old doors, etc. in my Dad’s old barn loft); and my World's Largest Egg Beater, certified by Guinness World Records.

Canada Geese - "Mates for Life" and "Going South"

I did similar pieces of folkart geese before and decided to make them again.
I call the double headed geese, "mates for life".  I used an old wooden fishing buoy for the body - there were two old rusty bottle caps nailed on the end of the buoy, not sure why they were there, but it adds character.

The other two I call, "going south", and made the bodies with an old suitcase and have an old key around their neck.

Hall Tree made from an old door

I had this old door stored in my fathers barn for awhile - I decided to make it in to a hall tree.
I had some old glass here and worked it into the corner pieces of the door - I broke a lot of glass but i had enough to finish it.

Newfoundland Vacation House features my furniture

I have a client here on the Island who has a 3-bedroom rental property in St. John's, Newfoundland - he filled it with more than 15 pieces of my furniture.

I made the following furniture for him: kitchen island, harvest table, stepback cupboards, coffee table, end tables, headboards and night tables, along with a few old dressers which I antique painted.

Here's the link to the house

Large Coffee Table with old Church Floor Grate

I made this large 4' x4' coffee table from pine with cedar legs with an old floor furnace grate from Montrose United Church.  The grate is set in to the top and open below for storage.

Honey Bees

I have a customer who raises honey bees and was looking for a few folkart bees.
I headed upstairs to Grandma's Attic ) above my Studio and put together these old wooden fishing buoys for the bodies and two old fan blades for the wings.
The fisherman used wood-turning lathes to turn out these buoys made from Island cedar, then they'd tar them to waterpr0of them.

Wine Cabinet from old dresser and mail box

I built this Wine Cabinet from two old pieces that were meant for each other!
The bottom is an old dresser and the top is an old 59-hole mail box were they sorted mail years ago (the bigger holes were for businesses).
Nowadays folks use drawers in their cupboards to store their dishes, glasses, mugs, etc. - these drawers are deep enough for wine glasses, etc.

Fishing Season

Last week I started making these fish and finished them this today.  For the tails I used a variety of different things, ie. wrenches, bone, etc.
I had a propeller upstairs in my collection of "stuff"and worked it in one of the fish.
