This blog shows the folkart I make, my reproduction furniture and other projects. My studio/shop is in my backyard. It's a couple of miles off the main road in West Prince County, Prince Edward Island, Canada. When you come to visit make sure you see – the "Olde Times" Garden House Museum; Grandma's Attic; the Furniture Box; Grampa's Loft (antiques, old doors, etc. in my Dad’s old barn loft); and my World's Largest Egg Beater, certified by Guinness World Records.

Over-the-Toilet Cabinet

This is a cabinet that goes over a toilet - I use a paint brush and a piece of a stove for the center piece on top.

Chief Wide Crotch

I've been working on this carving on and off for the past mouth and half.   This is the first cheif that I've made with a head piece.
I'm happy with the way it turned out. For the feathers I put in a nine inch dowel for every feather to keep them straight.
Here's photos of making the chief from stump to final painting.

Lady Night tables

I just finished making these night stands/tables.
I thought I would show you the process of making a piece of folkart - from a cedar log to finsh.  I start off with a cedar log that's been in my solar kiln drying for two years.
The next step is with the chain saw -  I have four types of saws with different blades for cutting different shapes.  Then I use the hand grinders.
Then I use a hand-grinder for shaping and fine tuning.
Then I use a hand-rasp and sand them.   Then I leave them to dry again beside a heat source for a couple of weeks.
Then I repair any cracks with nails and fill the cracks with bodyfill.  Then more sanding. Now the painting stage.
The curl-up on their hair can hold keys, wallets, coins, watch, etc. - their full chest can hold an alarm clock, a book and other things.

Multi-drawer Die Set Cabinet

I picked up this die set cabinet and made a whole new cabinet around it.
The drawers are working good - the original colour matched the new paint good.  I'm happy the way it turned out.

Flour Bin Island

I picked up this old flour bin a few weeks ago...
...then I worked it into a kitchen island, also had three old drawers. Its 23"d by 31"w by 37"h.  This could used as a flour bin or for pots, garbage, dog food, etc.
